Opportunity Focus

The core values are the guides to each individual’s thoughts, which in turn steer behavior. With PAAM’s core values the thoughts should be guided into reflective and positive future focus thoughts. Furthermore, leading to a proactive strive for growth in all aspects, all the time. This makes every single individual sit in the driver’s seat of life, relationships and business – with an opportunity focus.

There are mainly two different thought paths needed to create the best conditions for a clear opportunity focus. One concerns private activities and events, and the other concerns general situations that are faced in everyday life as well as in business.

Past

Present

Future

The key to opportunity focus is to be based in the present, and to relate to the consequences of the past in a sound way.

Guilt, shame and blame are often put into the review of activities in the past. This is a way of putting a negative judgement on performance, which can affect the Self. This is neither healthy, nor sound. It is not even a good viewpoint for the present, or the future. However, it is important to review and reflect over the past. Doing this with a viewpoint of learning means taking responsibility of the consequences of actions taken. While learning from the past consequences should be used to try and steer into the future. By relating to the future from the present, taking possible future consequences into account, makes it possible to focus on opportunities – something that is only possible in terms of the future.

When finding new desired states, it has historically been a great focus on problem solving. In the last decade of the last millennium, it was reshaped to a solution focus. Even though the later might have a slightly more positive approach, it is in fact the same viewpoint. Start by putting a lot of time and effort into analyzing the past, and from the past try to find new ways.

By starting from the present instead, and not focusing on the past, what problems to solve or specific solutions, the mind will be free and focused on all possible opportunities for the future. This is power, and proactivity!
